Book Reviewing

How Book Reviews Help Authors

There are many things that are important to authors, but book reviews are arguably the most important. There are many reasons that book reviews, on any platform but especially Amazon are important to authors. Potential readers are more likely to purchase a book if it has reviews. Having many reviews on Amazon can also help both a book and author go up in the rankings on Amazon. Another huge reason book reviews are important to authors is because it helps the book gain publicity. The more reviews a book has the more likely it is to be seen on sites other than where it is sold. Possibly the most important reason reviews are help authors is the effect book reviews can have on an author’s writing and self-esteem.

Book reviews are important to authors because potential readers may be more likely to purchase a book if it has reviews for them to go through. Reviews give potential readers a better idea of what the book is about, more so than the blurb does. Not only does it give potential readers information on the tone of an author’s writing but many readers leave a synopsis of the book, which can also help potential readers decide if they would enjoy the book.  This could help potential readers decide if the book is something they would be interested in or not. Reviews can also help a reader sell more books, if one book in an author’s series has several great reviews, this could push a reader to continue reading the series. Another way that book reviews can help an author sell more books, is how important reviews are to pre-sale of books. A final reason book reviews may help attract potential readers is the way that readers talk about pieces of the book they really enjoyed, so other readers can decide if that is something they would also like. If a reader enjoys romance that has a lot of adventure in it, and another reader talks about that, they may want to read that book too.

Reviews can also be important to authors because they may help an author and book go up in rankings on Amazon and other sites. Amazon rankings can help a book be seen by more potential readers. After a certain amount of  reviews on Amazon, a book then pops up in people “Suggested for you” and “because you read”. This means a potential reader may get emails suggesting an author’s book to them, simply because of the  number of  reviews it has on Amazon. Even if it is a short, vague review it can still be helpful to an author.

One huge reason reviews can be important to authors is the way that reviews can help a book gain publicity. If a book reviewer who has a blog writes a review for an author’s book, the author can then share that review on their social media and let potential readers know about their book. The more reviews a book has the more likely it is to be seen on sites other than where it is sold. Not only can authors share the reviews they get from book bloggers, but other readers can also share the reviews along with their opinions on the book, therefore increasing the amount of potential readers the book is seen by. Reviews can also help a book gain publicity by allowing an author to use those reviews in press releases, newsletters and other marketing places, and on their author websites.

Having reviews on Amazon lets an author know that people do read and enjoy their books. This helps an author’s self-esteem and encourages them to write more. Sometimes authors can struggle to find the motivation to keep writing, but shining reviews can help serve as sort of a pick me up to let authors know that what they are doing is for a reason. Book reviews can also be important to an author’s writing because reviews can serve as a critique on how they can better or change their writing. Reviews may help an author get a better idea of what their readers are looking for specifically, like whether they need to change their characterization or tone.

Book reviews are important to authors for many reasons, like the way reviews can draw potential readers in and the publicity they give both an author and books. They are also important to authors because they can send both the author and book up the rankings on Amazon and other sites. Arguably the biggest reason book reviews are important to authors though is the effect reviews can have on an author’s self-esteem and writing. Having positive reviews can help an author feel more positive about their writing, thus causing them to want to write more.
